Saint Katharine Drexel

St. Katharine Drexel was established July 1, 2001 with Father Paul E. Edwards as administrator. That same month, he conducted introductory meetings about the new parish and gave his vision for its future. Over 200 people attended the meetings, which were conducted in English and Spanish. That August, 20 parishioners each dedicated over 20 hours of service to the parish by preparing a mailing to over 14,000 households announcing its arrival. The first Masses were celebrated at Indian Trace Elementary School on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001 — just days after the tragic events of the World Trade Center. Over 1,500 people attended: 669 at the English Mass and 889 at the Spanish Mass. On Sunday, March 3, 2002, the parish held its first St. Katharine Drexel Feast Day Celebration at Markham Park. This consisted of an outdoor Mass, presided by Miami’s then Auxiliary Bishop Thomas Wenski, and followed by a parish picnic with lots of food and games. This event continues to be held each year around March 3, the feast day of St. Katharine Drexel. As the parish approached its first anniversary, Father Edwards asked those early parishioners if they would be willing to become "Founding Members" by committing to the task of laying a solid foundation for the parish community and extending God's kingdom in this part of the world. On Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, after negotiations to rent space at 2700 Glades Circle, the parish moved into its own place of worship. Plans to build the new church were sadly interrupted by Father Edwards’ diagnosis in August 2005 with a brain tumor, which turned out to be malignant and led to his death, April 22, 2006. From September 2005 to May 2006, the parish had two temporary administrators: Father Andrzej (Andrew) Pietraszko, who had previously been assigned to St. Katharine Drexel as deacon, became interim administrator until December 2005, when Father Jorge Bello was appointed to the position. At the end of May 2006, Father Pedro M. Corces was named administrator, becoming pastor March 25, 2007. In April 2010, Father Corces was succeeded as pastor by Father Enrique Delgado, who worked very hard with parishioners to raise the money needed to build the parish’s first permanent home, a multipurpose building. Located on the parish’s permanent site, at 2501 South Post Road, the building was dedicated Feb. 16, 2014. The parish has seen considerable turnover since its founding. When it started in 2002, the religious education program had 114 children registered. By 2012, the number had grown to 700. Some of the founding members have moved to other parts of the country, but this has been more than compensated by the influx of new parishioners. On June 6th, 2022, Msgr. Enrique Delgado was succeeded as pastor by Fr. Omar Ayubi. The total number of parishioners is currently estimated at 5294 families.

Mary's Hope Network was born from a legacy of faith, compassion, and service in Altos Mirandinos, Venezuela. It began with Mr. Valencia, a man whose love for God and his community inspired him to quietly serve children and families in need, even when resources were scarce. Year after year, he showed that true generosity is measured not by what we have, but by what we are willing to share. That legacy lives on through his daughter, María Angélica Valencia, her husband, Vicente Miralles, and their daughters, who carried this mission with them when they made the United States their home. What began as a family tradition of serving others grew into Mary's Hope Network—a mission inspired by Christ's call to love our neighbors through acts of mercy. One of its most cherished initiatives is Mary's Boxes (Cajas de María), bringing Christmas joy to children through gift boxes filled with toys, clothing, and hope. Over time, the mission expanded to include School Drive, providing backpacks and school supplies that inspire children to dream of a brighter future, and Say Yes to Life, supporting expectant mothers and newborns with essential baby care items through the Obra Niña María ministry at Saint Katharine Drexel Catholic Parish. Every initiative is made possible by generous sponsors, volunteers, and friends who believe that even the smallest act of kindness can transform a life. Every donation, sponsorship, and shared message brings hope, restores dignity, and reminds children and families that they are never forgotten or alone. Mary's Hope Network is more than a charitable organization. It is a living mission. A mission to bring Christ's love through acts of mercy. A mission to honor the God-given dignity of every child, every mother, and every family. A mission to remind the world that love knows no borders. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul at Saint Katharine Drexel Catholic Parish in Weston is a community of Catholic volunteers dedicated to serving Christ by serving those most in need. Inspired by the example of St. Vincent de Paul and Blessed Frédéric Ozanam, our Vincentians believe that every person deserves to be seen with dignity, loved without judgment, and accompanied with compassion. Since the founding of our parish conference in 2008, we have responded to Christ's call by visiting families personally, listening to their stories, praying with them, and providing practical assistance that restores hope during life's most difficult moments. More than offering temporary relief, we seek to build lasting relationships that help individuals and families regain stability, confidence, and peace. Through our Opportunity Ministry, we help prevent poverty by empowering people with employment resources, résumé assistance, LinkedIn profile development, interview preparation, networking opportunities, and professional and spiritual guidance. We also accompany families facing financial hardship by providing food assistance, help with essential living expenses, counseling, and encouragement while working together toward long-term stability and self-sufficiency. Every home visit becomes an opportunity to encounter Christ in our neighbor, and every act of charity becomes an expression of God's mercy. Supported by generous parishioners, benefactors, and volunteers, our mission extends beyond meeting material needs—it is about restoring hope, strengthening faith, and reminding every person that they are never forgotten by God. Guided by the Gospel and sustained through prayer, service, charity, and love, we strive to become the hands and feet of Christ within our community, bringing His light wherever darkness, loneliness, or hardship may exist.
